A couple weeks back I took my friend Courtney to Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio. The amusement park is about 3-4 hours from my place, which isn’t that bad considering it holds most of the roller coaster records in the world and is well worth the drive. I bet a lot of people wish they lived this close.
Cedar Point is an awesome place to go with 21 roller coasters, ridiculous amounts of other rides and side activities including a water park called Soak City located directly next to it. Tickets to the park were around $45 for the day with an additional $7 off if you brought in a specially marked Pepsi can, which we both did. Access to the water park is around $20. There are a variety of summer bundle packages, including one that adds access to the Rock n’ Roll hall of fame.
The best thing about this years trip to the park is that the lines were very short but the park seemed to be crammed with people, the longest line we waited in was around an hour long. But that was the line for the Raptor which is an amazing ride located at the front of the park. The next longest line was about 45 minutes for the Millennium Force, but after that all the other lines were anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes long.
The first ride we rode was the Raptor and we purchased a special ride DVD which actually shows our entire ride experience for $15. Attached infront of us was a small camera that captured all of our screams and laughs as we were thrown through a dozen loops. The Raptor was the only ride where you can purchase a DVD video, but most of the larger rollercoasters do offer a ride picture for around $7. We purchased a ride picture after we got off the Magnum, which is now celebrating its 20th year anniversary. Word of warning, the Magnums last four bunny hop styled hills will smash your legs and genitalia, be careful. I thought I was the only one in pain but a few kids behind me were talking about the pain they were in, so I think its safe to say wear a jock strap on this old Goliath of a ride.
I could go on all day about the fun we had a Cedar Point, but the highlight would have to be my ride on the Millennium Force, its easily the fastest (93 mph) and tallest (310 ft) roller coaster I have ever been on and wow, it is amazing, from the get go it’s moving faster then most the rides you have ever been on, including the ascend up the massive hill. Once at the top you feel like you are hanging over the edge of your seat preparing for a gory death. The first hill is a 80 degree drop, like whoa, the memory of it alone gives me an adrenaline rush. This ride for me is worth a trip to the park every year for the rest of my life, It solidified my annual trip to Cedar Point for the rest of my life.
An additional note is the food, this year they had a Panda Express, Subway, Johnsonville brat carts and a variety of other types of vendors all over. Years before you were stuck eating park food which consists of corn dogs and cotton candy, It was a nice to change to relax over some delicious orange chicken at our favorite park at the end of the day.
Overall Cedar Point was worth the money and would be a great change for anyone looking to switch up their summer vacation. Word of warning to anyone who is over 250 lb, many of the newer rides will not allow bigger people to ride, so keep this in mind and check the official website for restrictions. There is nothing more disappointing than being turned away from a ride, which happened to me 5 years ago when I was a bit larger.
Score: 10/10
